Loro lo interpretano come "sto per finire questi libri", ma è una forzatura. Semplicemente Martin dice che finirà questi libri, ma senza dare indicazioni di tempo. Poi magari domani ci svegliamo con la notizia della pubblicazione di TWOW, ma Martin non ha dato indicazioni in merito.

In the future, when A Song of Ice and Fire is concluded, do you hope to return to working in multifarious genres?
Yes… but I’ve still got years of this to go, and I’m already 68 years old, so… I have enough ideas right now to write other books until I was 168 years old. But I’m probably not going to live to be 168 years old. So how much time do I have? I’m always having new ideas, so I might never write some of these old ideas. So who knows? I write the things that I want to write.
I’ve been lucky with the success of these books and the show. I am going to finish these books; I think I have that obligation to the world and my readers. It’s the thing I’m going to be remembered for. But I will write other things after that, I hope. I might go back to writing short stories. I loved writing short stories. L'affermazione di Martin che si sente in obbligo di finire la serie é ammirevole, e rispecchia quello che molti (ovviamente non tutti) si aspettano nel rapporto scrittore/lettore, soprattutto in quei casi in cui lo scrittore ha raggiunto fama enorme grazie ai lettori.
Quindi, al di lá di tutto il resto, ringrazio Martin per questa presa di posizione.
E' una novità sentire Martin parlare della sua età e del fatto che non potrà riuscire a fare tutto ciò che vorrebbe. Ci si era abituati a sentirlo parlare del futuro come se fosse illimitato e dei tanti progetti come tutti realizzabili.
Anche quel ammettere di sentirsi in obbligo di finire la saga mi pare una novità.
E' una cosa positiva, perchè dimostra di tenere ai lettori, ma anche una cosa negativa, perchè dà l'impressione appunto di obbligo, piuttosto che di volontà.
Temo che nonostante i buoni propositi, l'ultimo libro rimarrà incompiuto. Dopo che la serie tv avrà spoilerato quasi tutto, le sue motivazioni per scrivere l'ultimo libro saranno minime, e si getterà ancora di più nei mille progetti paralleli. Già per TWOW stiamo andando per i 7 anni di scrittura, se ne possono prevedere una decina per ADOS.
Con il rischio di un abbandono di fatto, con continui rimandi e "prima o poi", anche se magari mai ufficializzato.

Ma perchè nell'attesa non fanno uscire un unico volume con tutti e tre i racconti? Venderebbe tanto e credo che in Italia The Rogue Prince non sia mai stato tradotto. Hanno fatto uscire un volume con citazioni di Tyrion, divertenti, ma assolutamente inutili.
Purtroppo quello che dice metamorfo è la pura e semplice verità.
