Gli Haken sono un gruppo prog metal britannico nato nel 2007 e con all'attivo ben cinque concept album di pregevole fattura.
Curiosamente su Prog Archives, la bibbia del rock progressivo su Internet, sono presenti non nella categoria "Progressive Metal" ma in quella "Hard/Heavy Prog" (la stessa di Rush e Porcupine Tree), probabilmente perché il loro stile, specie nei primi album, è molto influenzato dal prog rock classico ed è piu accessibile a chi non ama il metal; ciò nonostante, nelle loro canoni gli Haken si concedono ogni tanto delle scorribande nel metal estremo con accenni di cantato in growl.
Ciò che mi piace di questa band, oltre all'indubbia elevata tecnica dei musicisti e alla qualità compositiva (fate attenzione, ad esempio, alla genialità della sezione da 6:22 a 7:05 della canzone proposta di seguito), è proprio il suo stile variegato e anche la capacità di non prendersi troppo sul serio, dimostrata dall'inserimento persino di momenti di polka e di dubstep nelle canzoni.
Il brano del giorno è The Point of No Return, prima traccia del primo album degli Haken Aquarius, pubblicato esattamente 9 anni fa, il 29 marzo 2010:

In realtà non credo ci siano stati problemi di copyright perché Haken (pronunciato "haken") è semplicemente il cognome del creatore del continuum, mentre Haken (pronunciato "heiken") è un nome di fantasia inventato dal chitarrista della band Richard Henshall sotto effetto di alcool ed erba, se crediamo alla versione ufficiale.

Nuova canzone dei Rammstein. Pare ci siano state delle polemiche (stupide, come sempre) per i riferimento all'Olocausto. Come se si potesse accusare i Rammstein di filonazismo...
Nuovo lavoro solista di jordan rudess. Questo pezzo strumentale è un bel mix di generi diversi dal rock al jazz e ovviamente al prog rock.

Allora prima cosa: wow, il video é prodotto estremamente bene, dall'intro alla fine. È cosí che si fanno i video al giorno d'oggi (soldi permettendo)!
Ovviamente i richiami nazisti hanno un chiaro intento provocatorio (e mi sembra che funzioni, la band é su tutti i media). Al contrario di quello che aveva giá fatto Marilyn Manson in varie occasioni, in Germania peró bisogna stare attenti a non esagerare con questi elementi, che possono ritorcersi contro la band e i suoi interessi.
Sinceramente poi non ho capito il richiamo alla imboscata di Teutoburgo, non é che sia un gran motivo di vanto per i tedeschi, anche per tutto quello che ne é conseguito, le varie spedizioni punitive e lo stallo dei popoli germanici nell'etá del ferro, quando per esempio in Gallia la pace romana ha portato benessere e prosperitá.
Comunque non voglio star qui a fare lezioni di storia. Passiamo invece alla musica (e giá sono caduto nel tranello della band tedesca: la musica é passata in secondo piano 
). La ricetta non cambia, i Rammstein sono rimasti gli stessi per 25 anni. È cambiata solo la qualitá del suono, i primi album avevano una produzione meno potente e limpida, e si sono sempre soffermati piú sull'immagine, che sulla sostanza. Ma va bene cosí, il rock, in questa sua crisi ha bisogno di certezze, di icone e controversie mediatiche. Mi aspetto che il loro nuovo album abbia il successone preventivato, e speriamo che nella sua scia nascano nuove realtá musicali di un domani piú incerto che mai.

Vorrei condividere anche questo articolo, di cui estraggo, quella che forse è la parte più personale dell'analisi dell'artista, che ricalca bene le ragioni per cui ancora oggi la sua musica è immediata e ancora ha una forte presa:
Una storia famigliare convulsa come quella di Cobain e un’incapacità conseguente di trovare senso, pace, casa, si riconnettono però anche all’improvvisa assenza di un senso politico più alto. Per la prima volta la rockstar non si inserisce – aderendo o rifiutando – in un contesto naturale, sociale, politico, umano, che conosce il ribollire ideologico, dove il senso dell’Io, qualora mancasse, avrebbe la possibilità di ritrovarsi in una dimensione collettiva. Sebbene le rockstar tendano – la storia insegna – a ricavarsi uno spazio singolare, proprio, per poi generarne semmai uno a loro volta per chi li segue, per la prima volta, intorno a una rockstar viene a mancare un contesto aggregativo politico. Il crollo delle ideologie è imminente, e Kurt Cobain lo esprime completamente.
