Con la serie tv cinese già iniziata (gli episodi sono disponibili gratis su youtube) e la serie Netflix che uscirà quest'anno, ho pensato di aprire una discussione specifica sulla trilogia (il cui vero titolo è "Memorie del passato della Terra") del cinese Liu Cixin .
E' una storia con tanti contenuti interessanti da discutere, ma aspetto qualcuno che l'abbia letta per parlarne.
Per ora riporto quello che avevo scritto nella discussione sui libri letti (non ci sono spoiler):

Confermo quello che ho scritto sopra.
Pro: da un punto di vista di idee e concetti scientifici, politici e filosofici, arrivo a definirla un capolavoro: c'è una tale quantità di idee intelligenti, immaginifiche e sorprendenti, da rimanere affascinati e ammirati. La trama è elaborata e allarga sempre di più lo sguardo, nel tempo e nello spazio, e mi pare sia grandiosa ed epica.
Contro: i personaggi sono poco distinti, non ben approfonditi e si può dire che servono la trama, piuttosto che generarla. In parte, ne risente anche l'aspetto emotivo della storia. Il secondo libro rivolge in buona parte intorno ad un singolo personaggio principale, e il terzo anche, seppur un diverso personaggio.
Anche l'altro difetto che avevo evidenziato è confermato, con alcune parti che sono, fondamentalmente, digressioni che aggiungono poco.
A mio avviso, il primo libro è il peggiore dei tre (ma anche il più breve), perchè lo si può definire una lunga introduzione. Il secondo quello che mi è piaciuto di più. Il terzo è il più lungo, si collega bene al secondo e dà una conclusione alla storia.
Esiste una specie di spin-off, una sorta di fanfiction scritta da un altro scrittore (Baoshu) che approfondisce alcune parti della storia e sviluppa un seguito. Però ho visto che ha recensioni miste, e non so se lo proverò.
In ogni caso, trilogia sicuramente consigliata, da leggere possibilmente prima della serie tv di Netflix, la cui prima stagione è già stata girata e uscirà tra qualche mese.
Vediamo se D&D faranno danni, oppure se riusciranno a fare qualcosa di buono (la possibilità c'è, perchè la storia e le idee non mancano, e i difetti di cui ho parlato possono essere migliorati).
Riguardo le serie tv, in quella Netflix, tra gli interpreti ci saranno Liam Cunningham (Davos) e John Bradley (Sam).
Quella cinese sono 30 episodi, che escono quotidianamente, soltanto per la prima stagione (incentrata sul primo libro), e pare sia una riproduzione molto fedele del libro. Non ho ancora iniziato a vederla, ma temo che così tanti episodi per il primo libro, che è il meno interessante e con meno avvenimenti, possano renderla indigesta, soprattutto per i non lettori.

If you like lots of science in your SF, this is a book for you, especially if you love theoretical physics, astrophysics, and mathemathics. The Chinese background is fascinating, especially the look at the Cultural Revolution and its aftereffects. And the prose is very clean and tight, which is not always the case with translations, which sometimes come across as a bit clunky. Ken Liu did a fine job, in that respect; the writing flows.
The central character at the heart of the novel is a fascinating and complex creation, but she is not the protagonist for most of the book, and the character who does fill that role comes across as very flat, more a viewpoint than a person. One of the secondary players, an abrasive cop, is much more successful; he's a bit of an asshole, but the story really comes to life whenever he's on stage.
All in all, I liked THREE-BODY PROBLEM, but I can't say I loved it. I thought the book started off very strong, but sagged in the middle before picking up speed again toward the end. And the ultimate ending was unsatisfying... mainly because, as I now see, this is just the first of three. I DO want to know what happens next, though. So I will be reading the next.

Se non ti entusiasma il primo, resisti e prendi il secondo: dopo un inizio anch'esso non eccezionale, iniziano a piovere idee geniali e avvincenti.
Giusto per curiosità: la traduzione è dall'inglese o direttamente dal cinese, un po' come è stato fatto per i romanzi fantasy di Sapkowski che sono stati tradotti direttamente dal polacco per volontà dell'autore?
Io ho ascoltato gli audiobook in inglese. Ho letto che c'è qualcosa che si perde nella traduzione inglese, per esempio sul significato profondo e metaforico di alcuni nomi di personaggi e altri nomi.
Mi è venuta la curiosità e sono andato a vedere nel caso di Mondadori. La traduttrice è Benedetta Tavani, e dal suo linkedin, tra le lingue conosciute non risulta il cinese, quindi direi traduzione dall'inglese.

Ci sono sicuramente momenti importanti che i lettori vogliono vedere, ma c'è margine per fare potenzialmente dei cambiamenti che possono perfino migliorare la serie cartacea, modificando e approfondendo i personaggi, tagliando parti meno interessanti, espandendone altre, anticipando o posticipando eventi, ecc.
Ovviamente, c'è anche la possibilità di fare danni, per esempio non rispettando lo spirito e l'atmosfera generale, oppure sfruttando male le idee più interessanti.
Come lunghezza, si può chiudere in tre stagioni, ma c'è abbastanza materiale espandibile da poterne fare anche il doppio.
