La via dell'acqua, visto ieri sera.
Film spettacolare, sia dal punto di vista degli effetti che del concept design, anche se rispetto al primo film non ci sono stati, a mio avviso, delle vere innovazioni; è comunque lo stesso mondo che abbiamo visto nel primo Avatar. I nuovi Metkayina mi piacciono (avete notato la pseudo-haka?), mi piace il fatto che siano stati rappresentati come una sottospecie di Na'vi adattatisi anche fisicamente alla vita acquatica, così come mi è piaciuto il loro legame con i Tulkun. Sotto il profilo narrativo, è ancora questo western futuristico con i pionieri gretti e bastardi e i pellerossa buoni che assaltano il treno (letteralmente 
), Cameron fa avanzare la storia più con le dinamiche tra i vari personaggi - che mi sembrano tutto sommato ben caratterizzati - e questa formula funziona comunque.
Su Quaritch,
Cameron lo ha definito come il villain principale di tutta la saga. Il che, a mio avviso, potrebbe essere un problema, perchè in pratica restringe alla grande le sue possibilità di crescita e sviluppo come personaggio.
Allo stato attuale, il suo essere un Avatar potrebbe portarlo ad avvicinarsi di più alla cultura Na'vi e a seguire un percorso simile a quello di Jake, finendo per decidere che con l'umanità e i suoi problemi lui ha chiuso ma decidendo di conquistare Pandora per sè e la sua "nuova gente", cioè gli Avatar, introducendo una terza fazione in lotta per il controllo del pianeta.
Per quanto riguarda Kiri, penso che ci siano elementi sufficienti già ora per capire chi e cosa sia, come dice @Jacaerys Velaryon.
Nel complesso, il film è senz'altro promosso.

Ma Avatar, uscito a fine 2022, lo ha appena battuto: troppo tardi per il primo posto del 2022, ma in assoluto lo supererà di parecchio (forse raggiungendo i 2 miliardi)
Si esatto Maverick ha vinto il 2022 ma Avatar vincerà contando gli incassi totali nei 2 anni.
E' sempre un dispiacere che quando tutti i lupi dovrebbero sollevarsi, un posto possa rimanere vuoto.

Ho rivisto The Way of Water, questa volta in un multisala con schermo molto più grande. Conoscendo già la trama ed essendo consapevole dei suoi limiti, mi sono concentrato sulla parte tecnica e visiva e ho apprezzato il film molto di più. Ho inoltre avuto modo di notare molti particolari a livello di trama e storytelling a cui non avevo fatto caso durante la prima visione.
- Il secondogenito Lo'ak cerca per tutto il film di dimostrarsi degno agli occhi del padre fino a provocare involontariamente la morte del fratello maggiore Neteyam. Nonostante questo riesce a riguadagnare l'affetto del padre salvandolo, anche grazie al Tulkun Payakan di cui era diventato "fratello";
- L'ipotesi che Kiri sia figlia di Eywa, divinità di Pandora, tende a convincermi maggiormente un po' per la sua prevedibilità, un po' per gli ovvi rimandi cristologici e un po' perché non riesco a trovare una spiegazione alternativa avente la stessa logicità. È anche possibile che la particolare origine della figlia di Grace possa contribuire a portare la pace tra Na'vi e umani;
- Mi sembra che nel film non si parli mai di unobtanium, obiettivo degli umani nel primo film per via della grave crisi energetica sulla Terra. Ora l'obiettivo dei militari pare essere l'Amrita che dovrebbe risolvere un altro problema, ossia (per quel che si capisce dai mezzi dialoghi) dell'invecchiamento della popolazione terrestre. Anche questo cambiamento negli obiettivi del governo terrestre fa parte della parziale operazione di reboot di cui si parlava in precedenza? Il fatto che a inizio film venga mostrato che l'esercito ha predisposto una base su Pandora mi fa pensare che possa essere teatro di qualche grossa battaglia decisiva nei prossimi capitoli della saga;
- Per come la vedo io, Miles Quaritch non sta avendo un principio di redenzione quanto banalmente sta dimostrando di provare ancora qualche forma di affetto per il figlio. È anche interessante che lo stesso Quaritch viva in una situazione di ambiguità: ha i ricordi e la personalità del sé stesso del passato ma un corpo Na'vi. Il fatto che durante tale film decida di comportarsi e pensare come un Na'vi per raggiungere i suoi obiettivi potrebbe avvalorare l'ipotesi di Menevyn fatta in precedenza, ossia che possa diventare un ulteriore contendente per il dominio di Pandora;
- A inizio film, Neytiri afferma che Spider non è davvero un abitante di Pandora e membro della loro famiglia e a fine film minaccia di ucciderlo per far desistere Quaritch dal minacciare analogamente Kiri. Considerando che Socorro ha salvato il padre e che nessuno è a conoscenza di questo fatto, è probabile che ciò costituirà un fortissimo elemento di tensione tra Jake e la moglie quando la verità verrà a a galla.
In generale, la pellicola è un blockbuster dalla trama e dalle dinamiche prevedibili ma che se preso nel modo giusto ottiene il suo effetto principale, ossia divertire. Nella media dei film di intrattenimento senza pretese odierni non si trova di certo nella fascia bassa, grazie anche e soprattutto allo stile di Cameron. Rimodulo il mio voto precedente da 5 a 7.
Stando ad un vecchio articolo della BBC che sta venendo rilanciato in questo periodo, potrebbero essere usciti i titoli dei prossimi tre capitoli: The Seed Bearer, The Tulkun Rider e The Quest for Eiwa.
Oona Chaplin (Talisa Maegyr in GOT) interpreterà il capo dei Na'vi "cattivi".

Mi chiedo se la tribù della Cenere sarà ostile solo verso i protagonisti e i loro alleati o anche verso gli umani. In questo caso potrebbe crearsi una sorta di guerra a tre fazioni che, eventualmente unita ad un Quaritch che decide di parteggiare per sé stesso e non più per l'esercito terrestre come diceva Menevyn, potrebbe rendere la trama generale più interessante.

Se continua così l'ultimo film lo vedremo in contemporanea con la timeline della saga, sarà una diretta da pandora 
Io francamente non riesco ad immaginare un regista che dedica oltre 25 anni ad un singolo progetto cinematografico. Sono gli stessi anni trascorsi tra Terminator e Avatar
