Un youtuber italiano RickDufer dell'area filosofia/politica/letteraria di YouTube ha recentemente pubblicato un video con il titolo provocatorio "i 10 libri che odio". Il primo libro della serie "Il trono di spade" ha conquistato addirittura il 2 posto nella classifica con motivazioni inaspettate, ha criticato duramente i dialoghi prendendo come esempio la spiegazione che Tyrion da a Jon Snow sul perché legge i libri. È un'opinione impopolare la sua, Martin di solito viene lodato per i suoi dialoghi, ma adesso che ho visto questa critica non riesco più a guardare il libro con gli stessi occhi. La critica suggerisce che i dialoghi sono assurdi, alteziosi, pretenziosi e allo stesso tempo banali, la gente non parla così come parla Tyrion. Adesso che questa verità mi si è rivelata, voglio condividerla anche con voi, alcuni dialoghi sono decisamente cheesy e sopra le righe.
Premesso che nel testo in lingua originale il linguaggio è più asciutto rispetto alla traduzione italiana e si percepisce maggiormente la differenza di registro dei vari personaggi, la critica mi sembra un po' esagerata. Nel caso specifico di Tyrion, lui è particolarmente spigliato e colto, per cui non mi sembra irrealistico nel suo modo di parlare. È vero, però, che GRRM ha pensato ai suoi romanzi come a delle sceneggiature, è pur sempre un ex autore televisivo.

Dovrò vedere il video, ma esposta così è un'opinione che non condivido. Che i personaggi di un libro, qualunque libro/film/serie tv non parlino esattamente come nella vita reale ci può stare, anzi è inevitabile percé altrimenti non staremmo guardando un'opera di finzione ma un documentario. L'importante è non arrivare agli eccessi cannarsiani, ma non credo che Martin abbia reso particolarmente irrealistici i dialoghi dei suoi personaggi. Sono altri i potenziali temi di critica alla sua opera, come alcune forzature di trama, il diverso tono tra AGOT-ACOK-ASOS e AFFC-ADWD e cose di cui se ne è parlato ampiamente nel forum.

Ho visto il video, o meglio i pochi minuti di video in cui l'autore accenna ai libri di Martin anche se continua a chiamare la saga col nome della serie tv e vabbè.
Non sono certo uno che è stato tenero con GRRM su queste lande e ogni volta che si tocca l'argomento TWOW tendo ad esprimere una "retorica insopportabile" (cit.), ma il giudizio di RickDufer è troppo tranchant e nel complesso superficiale. Che il passato da sceneggiatore di Martin abbia influenzato la sua scrittura è possibile e forse probabile, ma il tono alle volte (e neanche sempre) barocco dei dialoghi non mi ha mai colpito negativamente. Semmai è il girare a vuoto della trama in molti passaggi di AFFC e ADWD a costituire uno dei limiti della saga, anche se lo youtuber dice di aver letto solo AGOT per cui non ho idea di cosa penserebbe se leggesse tutti e 5 i libri. Inoltre RickDufer cita come esempio proprio Tyrion, ossia il personaggio che più di ogni altro usa la lingua come una spada. Ancora, personalmente credo che molti dialoghi e soliloqui di ASOIAF abbiano una profondità e un calore che non ho ritrovato in altre opere cartacee. Al netto di tutti i suoi difetti e della sua molto probabile incompletezza finale, ASOIAF ha dei vertici qualitativi notevoli.
Mi è comunque piaciuto quando ha fatto cenno con termini eleganti e puntuali al declino di GoT dalla S4 in poi
