LONDRA - E' morto Syd Barrett, co-fondatore dei Pink Floyd e figura di spicco del progressive rock inglese a cavallo fra la fine degli anni '60 e i primi anni '70. L'artista, 60 anni, è deceduto due giorni fa ma la notizia è stata data soltanto oggi da un portavoce della sua vecchia band. I funerali si svolgeranno in forma privata.
Il cantante e chitarrista negli ultimi 30 ha vissuto lontano dalle scene, in una casa alla periferia di Cambridge, in Inghilterra. Si sa che soffriva di diabete, ma le cause della morte non sono state rese note.
Nato a Cambridge nel 1946, Barrett fondò i Pink Floyd nel 1965. Lasciò la band tre anni dopo, quando la collaborazione con gli altri divenne difficile anche a causa dell'abuso di droga. Dopo essere uscito dal gruppo, Barrett ha registrato degli album come solista, mantenendo sempre rapporti artistici con i suoi ex compagni David Gilmour e Roger Waters.
