Credo siano meno di un centinaio, contando solo quelli che portavano il cognome Targaryen. Quelli effettivamente pazzi (e su cosa si intenda per "pazzia" ci sarebbe da discutere) si contano sulle dita di una sola mano.
Per quanto riguarda la storia di Maekar erede, sembra che sia partito tutto da una dichiarazione del suo interprete, Sam Spruell. Secondo me ha fatto semplicemente confusione.

Sbaglio, o anche la mancata nomina di Rhaenys Targaryen ad erede di Jaehaerys I fu motivo di malcontento da parte dei Baratheon? Potrebbe essere un modo per sottolineare un sentimento ostile nei confronti dei draghi che i Baratheon si portano dietro da ben prima della ribellione di Robert, passando ovviamente per la "crisi" dovuta a Duncan il piccolo.

Contando solo i Targaryen presenti o menzionati nel corso della stagione, ci sono almeno tre eredi prima di Maekar, e non abbiamo al momento ragione di credere che gli eredi non citati, ad esempio Matarys, siano stati cancellati.

Le aggiunte della prima stgione non sono state cosi male, tenendo conto che bisognava appunto allungare perchè il libro è un po' troppo corto per un'intera stagione.
