GRRM: Keep reading SSM, 22/10/2005
Per chi non ne ha familiarità, il SSM elenca più o meno qualunque cosa George 'I would have no problem with you collecting my "words" (by which I assume you mean interviews, public comments, letters, etc, rather than fiction), provided that I could ask you to pull down anything I decided I did not want up there -- misquotes, outdated info, slips of the tongue, etc.' abbia detto su ASOIAF negli ultimi 20+ anni.

CitaWe'll learn what "valar dohaeris" means in A Dance with Dragons. SSM, 1/9/1999
"All men must serve".

He used to be a Snow, but His Grace has made him a Bolton. They say he's very brave. I am so happy." (ASOS, Jaime IX).
CitaSimple question, really — will we ever find out what happened to the "Wetnurse", Tyrek?
GRRM: "Yes, you will. I try not to leave too many loose ends. But sometimes you need to wait."
LOL
Cita
Now as for my question, will Barristan Selmy be back and play an important role?
GRRM: "Yes, Ser Barristan will be back."
Cita"Theon won't be in A FEAST FOR CROWS, but that's not to say he won't turn up again in some future volume. He's not dead... though at times he wishes he were." SSM, 7/6/2004

If men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. Cita"Yes, I will be making additions (and subtractions) to the lineup of POV characters in each volume. I know how the series goes from here in broad strokes, but not necessarily all the small details. Yes, I have an end envisioned, but getting from here to there is half the fun." SSM, 18/12/1998
epitaffio
CitaTo begin with, why don't you give us the broad picture of your SONG OF ICE AND FIRE series.
George_RR_Martin : "That's a huge question . . . I could be typing for the next two hours. Six books, for a start. Six big books. A blend of epic fantasy and historical fiction in tone. A cast of thousands. And unlimited budget for special effects."
(...)
"It was only three books when I started . . . it grew on me. But after ten years in Hollywood, pinching every word to deliver 60-page scripts, I wanted to do something big, something where I didn't need to sweat the budget...It was a relief to come back to books. My last couple of Hollywood experiences were ugly ones, and I left feeling bitter and tired."
Wow.
Cita"I like to paint in shades of grey, not blacks and whites. Someone once said the villain is the hero of the other side. I wanted to reflect that. So many fantasies have villains who are cardboard cutouts. Lord Blackness or King Evil or the Monstrous One or somesuch. Feh."
Feh , come Walder Fry ?
Cita"There's no one-for-one correspondence, I read a lot of history, certainly, and I borrow from it. But I don't like to simply change the names and write it down verbatim. I fiddle instead — change this, mix X with Y, give this twist to the history and that to the culture, imagine a different king or a different religion. It makes things more unexpected."

Cita"Past ICE & FIRE . . . well, I have a million ideas. It depends on which one I fall in love with along about 2006 or so."
(...)
How do you gauge the length of the series, and how often has it changed?
George_RR_Martin : "How do I gauge it? Well, very badly, judging by the fact that it has grown from three books to six. I have changed twice. Once from three to four, then four to six. But IT ENDS THERE! SIX! SIX! SIX!"
SEVEN! SEVEN!
CitaIt's been mentioned that there will be a period of around 5 years between the events of A STORM OF SWORDS and A DANCE WITH DRAGONS. One rather obvious reason is to allow Dany's dragons to grow. Any other reasons that can be disclosed?
George_RR_Martin : "Dany's dragons — and the kids! When I began this project, I never intended to write hundreds and thousands of words about a twelve-year-old, a ten-year-old, and an eight-year-old. I have to get Sansa, Arya, and Bran a little older or I'm going to go nuts. And Rickon too. I didn't even try to write from a three year old's POV, but when he is a little older, he and Shaggy will be back in the tale."

Cita"I was always intensely Romantic, even when I was too young to understand what that meant. But Romanticism has its dark side, as any Romantic soon discovers... which is where the melancholy comes in, I suppose. I don't know if this is a matter of artistic influences so much as it is of temperament. But there's always been something in a twilight that moves me, and a sunset speaks to me in a way that no sunrise ever has."
'Dying of the light', and so on and so forth...
Cita"Historical processes have never much interested me, but history is full of stories, full of triumph and tragedy and battles won and lost. It is the people who speak to me, the men and women who once lived and loved and dreamed and grieved, just as we do. Though some may have had crowns on their heads or blood on their hands, in the end they were not so different from you and me, and therein lies their fascination. I suppose I am still a believer in the now unfashionable "heroic" school, which says that history is shaped by individual men and women and the choices that they make, by deeds glorious and terrible. That is certainly the approach I have taken in A Song of Ice and Fire."
Signore e Signori, vi presento un romantico microsociologo.
Cita"The battle between good and evil is a legitimate theme for a Fantasy (or for any work of fiction, for that matter), but in real life that battle is fought chiefly in the individual human heart. Too many contemporary Fantasies take the easy way out by externalizing the struggle, so the heroic protagonists need only smite the evil minions of the dark power to win the day. And you can tell the evil minions, because they're inevitably ugly and they all wear black.
I wanted to stand much of that on its head.
In real life, the hardest aspect of the battle between good and evil is determining which is which."
Cita"Yes, three more volumes remain. The series could almost be considered as two linked trilogies, although I tend to think of it more as one long story. The next book, A Dance With Dragons, will focus on the return of Daenerys Targaryen to Westeros, and the conflicts that creates. After that comes The Winds of Winter. I have been calling the final volume A Time For Wolves, but I am not happy with that title and will probably change it if I can come up with one that I like better."
Interview with Locus magazine (November 2005)
Cita
"Back at the Philadelphia Worldcon (which seems a million years ago), I announced the famous five-year gap: I was going to skip five years forward in the story, to allow some of the younger characters to grow older and the dragons to grow larger, and for various other reasons. I started out writing on that basis in 2001, and it worked very well for some of my myriad characters but not at all for others, because you can't just have nothing happen for five years. If things do happen you have to write flashbacks, a lot of internal retrospection, and that's not a good way to present it. I struggled with that essentially wrong direction for about a year before finally throwing it out, realizing there had to be another interim book. That became A Feast for Crows, where the action is pretty much continuous from the preceding book.
Even so, that only accounts for one year. Why the four after that? I don't know, except that this was a very tough book to write -- and it remains so, because I've only finished half. Going in, I thought I could do something about the length of the second book in the series, A Clash of Kings, roughly 1,200 pages in manuscript. But I passed that and there was a lot more to write. Then I passed the length of the third book, A Storm of Swords, which was something like 1,500 pages in manuscript and gave my publishers all around the world lots of production problems. I didn't really want to make any cuts because I had this huge story to tell. We started thinking about dividing it in two and doing it as A Feast for Crows, Parts One and Two, but the more I thought about that the more I really did not like it. Part One would have had no resolution whatsoever for 18 viewpoint characters and their 18 stories. Of course this is all part of a huge megaseries so there is not a complete resolution yet in any of the volumes, but I try to give a certain sense of completion at the end of each volume -- that a movement of the symphony has wrapped up, so to speak.”

CitaWill there be any further explanation of the skirmish at the "Tower of Joy", by Howland Reed or whomever?
GRRM: "Yes, in later volumes." SSM, 12/28/1998
"You'll need to wait for future books to find out more about the Tower of Joy and what happened there, I fear. I might mention, though, that Ned's account, which you refer to, was in the context of a dream... and a fever dream at that. Our dreams are not always literal."
Also, did the Kingsguards know what was in the Tower?
"Certainly". SSM, 1/2/2002
He dreamt an old dream, of three knights in white cloaks, and a tower long fallen, and Lyanna in her bed of blood.
In the dream his friends rode with him, as they had in life. (...) Ned had known their faces as well as he knew his own once, but the years leech at a man's memories, even those he has vowed never to forget. In the dream they were only shadows, grey wraiths on horses made of mist.

And boats (though not many of their own)." SSM, 6/11/1999

CitaWill we know in time, with certainty, the identity of Jon Snow's parents (I don't believe Edric Dayne's tale)? Personally, I really hope he's Lyanna and Rhaegar's son, despite looking so much like Eddard.
GRRM: "Jon's parentage will be revealed eventually, yes." SSM, 19/06/2001

CitaAre the Others just pure evil, or are we going to find out more about their motives later on?
GRRM: "Keep reading". SSM, 4/1/2003
CitaAnother interesting thing from the con, at one point in a panel GRRM was commenting that he didn't like how in a lot of fantasy stories various races are all defined by a single personality (i.e. all orcs are evil, all elves are wise, etc), whereas it would be more realistic for various individuals within a race to have different personalities, viewpoints, etc. Some quick-witted audience member asked him how that idea applied to the Others in his own books, to which he replied, "I'm not gonna answer that." SSM, 8/3/2007
Ah-ah !?
CitaI think the broken horn that Ghost found with all the obsidian is the real horn of winter. Any comments?
"Nope. Keep reading." SSM, 2/1/2001
Does Sam still have the horn that Jon found with the obsidian?
GRRM: "Yes." SSM, 6/19/2001
By the time the dealing was done, Sam was down to his boots and blacks and smallclothes, and the broken horn Jon Snow had found on the Fist of First Men. (AFFC, Samwell IV)

https://www.reddit.com/r/freefolk/comments/9hsb7e/newly_released_grrm_interview_from_a_year_ago/
CitaSince Tyrion is going to the Free Cities (and one of Varys's contacts there likely being Magister Illyrio), is it a possibility that he might hear of and hook up with Dany and her dragons (he's fascinated by dragons, if I remember well)?
GRRM: "It's possible."
CitaThere's so much speculation about it, partly because of a comment of you that seems to imply that he's not dead. So, is Aegon dead or has he survived somehow? I'm not asking if he will be the new POV in book four, but I sure would like to know if he's still alive or not. Any thoughts on what's going on with him?
GRRM: "Plenty of thoughts on Aegon." SSM, 16/11/2001
Cita(chiede info sulle spade targaryen)
And if yes, what was it named and what happened to it - Rhaegar had it on the Trident, maybe?
GRRM: "The most famous of them was named Blackfyre. It was long lost by Rhaegar's day, however."
Or, if you can't tell right now, will we find out about it in a later book?
GRRM: "Yes."
"How fares our lad?" asked Illyrio as the chests were being secured. Tyrion counted six, oaken chests with iron hasps. Duck shifted them easily enough, hoisting them on one shoulder.
(...)
"There is a gift for the boy in one of the chests. Some candied ginger. He was always fond of it." Illyrio sounded oddly sad. "I thought I might continue on to Ghoyan Drohe with you. A farewell feast before you start downriver …"
(...)
(...)
"Why, lad? You ask me why? Because Daemon was the better man. The old king saw it, too. He gave the sword to Daemon. Blackfyre, the sword of Aegon the Conquerer, the blade that every Targaryen king had wielded since the Conquest . . . he put that sword in Daemon's hand the day he knighted him, a boy of twelve."
da THE PRINCESS AND THE QUEEN :
Every visible symbol of legitimacy belonged to Aegon. He sat the Iron Throne. He lived in the Red Keep. He wore the Conquerer’s crown, wielded the Conquerer’s sword, and had been anointed by a septon of the Faith before the eyes of tens of thousands. Grand Maester Orwyle sat in his councils, and the Lord Commander of the Kingsguard had placed the crown upon his princely head. And he was male, which in the eyes of many made him the rightful king, his half sister the usurper.
Cita"You'll meet two more sellsword companies in A STORM OF SWORDS, the Stormcrows and the Second Sons. And there are others. The Golden Company is the largest and most famous, founded by one of Aegon the Unworthy's bastards. You won't meet them until A DANCE WITH DRAGONS." SSM, 5/13/2000
Cita"GRRM himself stated this is an advantage of this book. That we will get some hints of what is going on in the North and East but we wouldn't know what is true and what not. We may learn that Stannis is killed for example but that could easily be a red herring." SSM, 5/27/2005
No, nessuna aringa rossa. Martin intende ...something, especially a clue, that is or is intended to be misleading or distracting... una falsa pista. It may be that we shall lose this battle," the king said grimly. "In Braavos you may hear that I am dead. It may even be true. You shall find my sellswords nonetheless." (The Winds of Winter - Theon I)

CitaWhat if HBO catches up?
GRRM: They won't catch up! "I have a big head start."
Any pov characters in Casterly Rock?
GRRM: "Yes, maybe in TWOW."
CitaGRRM talked about Dorne! He wasn't exactly dissing the show, but he didn't have anything good to say about it. One guy asked if season 6 would spoil the books for him. Something like "Don't think what happens in the show will happen in the books, the show is completely different. The books will be nothing like that." You could really feel the dislike he had for it. SSM, 5/29/2016

1) Tutti e tre hanno pochi capitoli (Sansa 3, Arya 5, Bran 3);
2) Tutti e tre si trovano in un posto isolato e lontano dalla trama principale (Sansa è nella Valle, Arya a Braavos e Bran oltre la Barriera);
3) Tutti e tre stanno subendo una sorta di addestramento;
